Switzerland expands list of anti-Russian sanctions


Switzerland has decided to expand the list of sanctions against Russia as part of the EU's 15th sanctions package. This was announced on February 12 by the press service of the country's government on its official website.
"The Federal Council has decided to join the measures of the 15th EU sanctions package against Russia. <...>These measures will come into force on February 13, 2025", - follows from the statement.
It is reported that the Swiss sanctions will prohibit the recognition and enforcement of certain judgments issued by Russian courts. These decisions relate to disputes between Russian and Swiss companies, in which Russian courts claim exclusive jurisdiction.
Earlier, on January 27, the head of EU diplomacy Kaja Kallas officially confirmed the agreement to extend anti-Russian sanctions for six months. It was specified that the restrictions will come into force on February 22. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov, in turn, said that there are no innovations in the EU extension of illegal anti-Russian sanctions for six months.
On February 2, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer said that the British government was ready to work with the EU countries on the introduction of new sanctions against Russia. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov, in turn, called London's plans to strengthen sanctions a reflection of the policy of imposing confrontation.
Western countries increased sanctions pressure on Russia after the start of the special operation to protect civilians in Donbass, which was announced on February 24, 2022.
