The Irkutsk region plans to open an ice crossing to Olkhon Island in the second half of February. This is reported by the regional government.

Now on the site of the future seasonal road preparatory work is underway. A highway with two lanes at a distance of 100 meters from each other is already planned on the site. Work is underway to eliminate hummocks, later road signs will be installed.

This year, due to the abnormally warm winter, the opening was delayed and at the moment the exit to the ice is dangerous, warned the Ministry of Transport and Roads. But to allow traffic is planned already in the second half of February, the exact date will depend on weather conditions and ice conditions.

"Specialists every day take measurements of ice and continue to perform preparatory work. We plan to open the crossing in the second half of February", - said the head of the Ministry of Transport Maxim Lobanov.

The ice crossing to Olkhon will be the longest in the region, its length will be 11 kilometers, writes IA IrkutskMedia. It starts near the village of Kurkut and ends on Olkhon in the Irkutskaya Guba area.
