Meshchansky District Court extended the detention of former Sochi mayor Alexei Kopaigorodsky until May 17, lawyer Ivan Mironov told Izvestia on February 12.

Kopaygorodsky's defense insisted on house arrest. Mironov specified that his confidant is a military officer and wishes to return to the special operation zone.

"In its motion to extend the measure of restraint, the investigation referred to Kopaygorodsky's new accusation of bribery," the lawyer said, adding that no documents were allegedly provided for the new accusation.

The investigation continues.

The former mayor of Sochi was detained on September 25 last year in the special operation zone, the same day he was arrested. According to the latest information, he is suspected of receiving a bribe of 43 million rubles from a businessman through his wife.

In early October, the property of relatives of the former mayor was arrested. Yanina was detained on November 12, and the next day was sent under house arrest. The woman's credit accounts for 100 million rubles were arrested. Lawyer Ivan Mironov told Izvestia that Kopaigorodskaya is suspected of embezzlement together with her husband. In mid-November, the court extended the measure of restraint in the form of detention until February 17 to the ex-city governor himself.

Later, December 20, the lawyer of Kopaigorodsky's wife Elizaveta Metkina told "Izvestia" that the court left her client under house arrest. The woman is accused of committing a crime under Part 4 Article 160 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Appropriation or embezzlement").
