Ukrainian young people aged 18-24 can serve under contract in the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) only in infantry brigades. This was reported on February 12 by the Ukrainian online newspaper "Strana.ua".

"On the website of the Ministry of Defense guys 18-24 years old are offered a choice of only six infantry brigades that fight on the front line," - noted in the Telegram-channel of the publication.

The list of brigades available for service includes the 72nd, 28th and 92nd separate mechanized brigades, as well as the 95th separate airborne assault brigade, the 38th separate marine infantry brigade and the 10th separate mountain assault brigade.

It is specified that other military units, for example, in the Navy, can not be selected.

Earlier, on February 10, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky (term of office expired in May 2024) revealed some terms of a special one-year contract for young Ukrainians aged 18 to 24. According to him, the contract will provide for 1 million hryvnia (just above $24,000), free admission to a university without taking exams, and special mortgage terms.

Prior to that, on February 8, in an interview with Reuters, Zelensky said he intended to lure young men from 18 to 24 years old (up to draft age) to the AFU through special contracts.

On February 5, the Ukrainian leader extended martial law and general mobilization in the country until May 9 this year. On 25 January, he said that the mobilization of people over the age of 25 was insufficient to meet all the needs of the front. He specified that the country would mobilize all available resources under martial law.

In addition, on January 15, Zielenski signed a law that implies the inclusion of young men aged 17 in the conscription register. In addition, eligible women who have expressed a desire to perform military service will be voluntarily placed on the military conscription register.

Martial law in Ukraine has been in effect since February 2022. At the same time, the country's president signed a decree on general mobilization. Later, the Verkhovna Rada repeatedly extended its effect. Most men between the ages of 18 and 60 are forbidden to leave the country. In April 2024, the head of the Kiev regime approved the law on tougher mobilization.
