A veterinarian spoke about the need to sterilize cats

Responsible cat owners should not have any questions about the expediency of sterilization of a pet, and a female animal needs it. This was told by Mikhail Shelyakov, a veterinarian of the highest qualification category.

"If the animal is not subject to reproduction, that is, if you are not going to reproduce it, have kittens, then sterilization is simply necessary for the health of the cat. Sterilized girls, or, as it is correct to say, neutered, and live longer, and get sick less. But all this applies to the female sex," the veterinarian said in a conversation with Radio 1.

According to Shelyakov, sterilization surgery is best done from four to five or six months of age, depending on the season. It is better to perform it before the first heat. If it is a female cat, the surgical intervention consists of removing the uterus with ovaries. The owner must choose which way to do it. It can be a cavity surgery or laparoscopic, through several punctures. Minimally invasive surgeries are also done, through a single puncture.

As for the cat's exit from anesthesia, animals behave differently, the specialist noted.

After the animal has been sterilized, it requires less energy. Therefore, you need to make sure that it does not get fat, concluded the veterinarian.
