Surgeon names the causes of the "widow's hump"

Excessive deposition of fatty tissue in the area between the neck and upper back, popularly called "widow's hump", may arise from hormonal disorders in the body. This was stated on February 12 by Denis Sergeev, plastic surgeon, trichotransplantologist at Damas Medical Center.
The doctor noted that the appearance of such changes in the body in women can accompany menopause, when the level of estrogen decreases, and redistribution of adipose tissue increases. And in men, the first sign of the disease can become dorsocervical fat deposits due to a violation of testosterone metabolism.
In addition, poor posture and muscle imbalance can also accelerate the appearance of the "widow's hump". According to the doctor, constant tilting of the head, for example, when working at a computer leads to a deterioration of muscle tone and aggravation of the position. Also a factor in the occurrence of dorsocervical fat deposits can be connective tissue changes.
"Sometimes a dense capsule of connective tissue is formed around the fat deposits, which makes them more pronounced and difficult to correct," Sergeev told "Gazeta.Ru".
Another surgeon singled out overweight, obesity, genetic predisposition and endocrine diseases. However, he added that in order to diagnose the causes, it is necessary to conduct an ultrasound examination to determine the volume and structure of adipose tissue, as well as to assess the presence or absence of connective tissue capsule and other pathologic formations.
In December last year, Anna Terekhova, neurologist, algologist, head of the chronic pain treatment center of JSC "Medicine" (Clinic of Academician Roitberg) told "Izvestia" that back pain is a signal of the body, which is important to respond in time. For its prevention is important motor activity and emotional stability. According to the doctor, prolonged stay in an uncomfortable posture, sudden movements and improper weight lifting can damage back tissues and cause pain.
