Rospotrebnadzor has banned the work of the restaurant "The Bull" on the 2nd Brestskaya Street in Moscow for 60 days after a visitor's statement about poisoning and inspection. This is reported on February 12 on the website of the agency.

"In connection with the received appeal of a citizen about food poisoning in the restaurant "The Bull", on January 15, 2025 in coordination with the Prosecutor's office of the city of Moscow conducted an unscheduled selective control in relation to the public catering enterprise," - stated in the message of Rospotrebnadzor.

Its experts checked the restaurant and found gross violations of sanitary and epidemiological requirements. Thus, the products in the institution were stored in the wrong conditions, for example, pre-cut ingredients for dishes were not kept in the refrigerator. There was no information about the manufacturer, expiration dates and storage conditions on the products. There were no thermometers in areas where food was stored. The refrigeration equipment was in improper sanitary condition.

In addition, FBUZ "Center for Hygiene and Epidemiology in Moscow" conducted an expert examination of the products from the restaurant and found an excess of microorganisms and E. coli bacteria. According to the results of the inspection, 544 kg of products were removed from sale.

After these examinations Rospotrebnadzor applied interim measures, and on January 27 the restaurant was sealed. The legal entity that owns the restaurant was subjected to a protocol on temporary prohibition of activities under Article 6.6 of the Administrative Code of the Russian Federation ("Violation of sanitary and epidemiological requirements to the organization of public catering"). The document together with the case materials was transferred to the Tverskoy court of Moscow, which on February 5 decided to suspend the restaurant for 60 days.

The territorial department of Rospotrebnadzor management in the Central Autonomous District (CAO) of Moscow controls the elimination of violations in the institution.

The day before, February 11, in Moscow, two people were poisoned by baked goods, in which they noticed silver balls, similar to mercury. Medics flushed the stomachs of the victims and continued to provide assistance. Later, Rospotrebnadzor launched an epidemiological investigation.

The next day, the agency temporarily suspended the work of the bakery "Melnitsa" on Simferopol Boulevard, where the poisoned bought products. Rospotrebnadzor conducted an inspection in the institution and found violations of sanitary norms and the law in the field of technical regulation. 925 kg of products were withdrawn from circulation.

Biochemist and scientist Alexander Khodos suggested in a conversation with Izvestia the same day that mercury could have gotten into the baked goods from a broken thermometer if the rules of working with such devices were violated. The expert pointed out that mercury is much more dangerous in the form of vapors that entered the body through the respiratory tract than when it gets into food. The vapor that a person inhales settles in the lungs and kidneys, damaging their tissues.
