Half of Europeans see the U.S. under Trump as a forced partner

On average, 50% of Europeans no longer see the United States as an ally under President Donald Trump. This was reported by The Guardian on February 12, citing a survey.
The poll was conducted in 11 EU member states, as well as in Switzerland, the United Kingdom and Ukraine.
"Donald Trump's return to the White House has led to a "noticeable shift" in the views of Europeans on the United States: even the most American-friendly Europeans no longer view Washington primarily as an ally," the material says.
According to the newspaper, the study showed that on average 50% of Europeans surveyed view the US more as a forced partner - even in countries such as Poland and Denmark.
"These figures show a collapse of confidence in Washington's foreign policy agenda and herald the possible collapse of the transatlantic alliance," said Arturo Varvelli, co-author of the report by the European Council on Foreign Relations.
The tendency to view Washington as a "necessary partner" rather than an ally is strongest in Ukraine, Spain and Estonia.
As the survey showed, Hungarians, Bulgarians and Romanians have a more positive attitude to Trump.
Earlier, on February 10, it was reported that Trump raised tariffs on steel and aluminum imports from 10 percent to 25 percent, and removed various exemptions and duty waivers for the largest suppliers. Prior to that, Trump specified that these duties would be imposed on products of those countries that had previously imposed retaliatory restrictions on American products.
On February 1, Trump signed an executive order to impose trade tariffs of 25% on goods from Canada, China and Mexico. With this decision, he seeks to prevent the importation of drugs across the border and hopes to reduce the flow of migrants arriving in the United States. At the same time he promised to impose duties on goods from the EU. On February 4, after negotiations with the Canadian government, Trump postponed the introduction of tariffs on goods from the country for at least 30 days.
