Fisherman told about those who refused to evacuate in the Sea of Okhotsk

Sakhalin fishermen in the Sea of Okhotsk, where a ten-meter crack formed near the mouth of the Dolinka River, refused to be evacuated because they are sure that they will be rescued. This was stated to Izvestia on February 12 by one of the fishermen named Mikhail.
"You see, they came for fishing, and they know that they will be rescued. And, naturally, they stay, [because] sooner or later anyway the ice will come up or the landfast ice will fall into place, and they will just get out of there," Mikhail said.
He added that many also refuse to leave their equipment and gear.
Earlier in the Ministry of Emergency Situations reported that 139 people were evacuated from the ice floe in the Sea of Okhotsk. Mi-8 helicopter and watercraft were involved in the rescue operation.
Rescuers warned that going out on the ice near the southeastern coast of Sakhalin is prohibited, as on February 13 in this area is expected to be solid drifting ice.
