In 2024, domestic producers produced more than 10.4 million tons of vegetable oils, which is 6.9% more than the level of the previous year, the press service of the Ministry of Agriculture reported.

This included 8 million tons of sunflower oil (growth in this category reached 11.7%) and about 1.1 million tons of soybean oil (+9.6%).

Self-sufficiency in vegetable oils in our country is 2.8 times higher than the threshold value of the food security doctrine, which makes Russia one of the world leaders in the export of these products.

"The growth of vegetable oils output is the result of the consistent policy of the Ministry of Agriculture to increase oilseed production and protect the domestic processing market. At present, the domestic oil and fat industry is increasing its production capacity at a faster pace, which makes it possible to expand the area under oilseed crops every year," said Mikhail Maltsev, Executive Director of the Russian Oil and Fats Union

In particular, last year, due to the implementation of modernization projects and new construction, processing capacity increased by almost one million tons and exceeded 32 million tons per year, the expert noted.

Earlier, on February 11, the Ministry of Agriculture reported on the growth of dairy products production in Russia. It was noted that in the 12 months of last year, about 6.1 million tons of drinking milk was produced, which is 5% higher than in 2023. Other items also showed growth: cheese was produced 841 thousand tons (+5.1%), cottage cheese - 474.5 thousand tons (+5%), ice cream - 600 thousand tons (+16.6%), cream - 362 thousand tons (+14.7%), yogurt - 791 thousand tons (+6.6%).
