Siyarto says solution found for Russian energy payments

Hungary has found a solution to pay for Russian energy resources in the conditions of US sanctions against Russia. This was announced by the Hungarian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Economic Relations Peter Szijjarto on February 12.
"We have already found a solution with the help of our Russian colleagues, so today I have excellent regional cooperation with Serbs, Bulgarians, Turks and Russian colleagues, although the situation was really difficult, but if you all want to find a solution, you have to do it, and we did it," he told RIA Novosti.
He expressed concern that such things should not happen in international politics. He also called the restrictions a "disappointing move" on the part of the former US administration because they knew that allies would suffer.
Earlier, on December 5 last year, Russian President Vladimir Putin updated the procedure for foreign buyers to make payments for Russian gas supplies. The signed decree authorized the resumption of supplies to foreign buyers who repaid their debts by crediting their accounts in rubles. At the same time, the decree appointed Gazprombank as an authorized bank to open special accounts for such supplies.
In November Gazprombank was included in the U.S. sanctions list. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said afterward that Russia was working on retaliatory measures. He called completely blocking measures against Russia impossible and promised that a solution would be found soon.
Western countries have tightened sanctions pressure on Russia in connection with the special operation to protect Donbass. The decision to launch it was announced on February 24, 2022 after the situation in the region worsened due to shelling by the Ukrainian military.
