The State Duma linked the use of maggot powder in products in the EU to the sanctions

The European Union (EU) has started using powder from the larvae of the yellow mealworm (Tenebrio molitor) due to anti-Russian sanctions. Such a statement was made by the chairman of the State Duma, Vyacheslav Volodin, on February 12.
The day before on the EU website posted a card of the law with a note on the authorization of the use of yellow mealworm larvae in products.
"In fact, these are the consequences of the sanctions policy of the West against our country, which turned out for Europe the collapse of the economy, the closure of production facilities and serious problems in the agro-industry," he wrote in Telegram-channel.
In turn, the European Commission (EC), according to Volodin, calls insects an alternative source of protein as an argument for this decision.
The chairman of the State Duma specified that the EU is replacing the goods of local agricultural producers with grubs instead of helping farmers who continue to hold protests.
He added that at the same time in Europe do not think about the fact that eating insects can lead to disease.
Earlier, on January 18, RBB24 reported that at least 3,500 people rallied in Berlin in support of changes in agriculture.
Before that, on January 3, representatives of the agricultural sector in Poland protested in front of the European Commission (EC) in Warsaw. Several thousand people under the slogan "Five times no" spoke out against imports of agricultural products from Ukraine, environmental regulations in Europe, and the decline of the Polish economy.
Back in March 2024, American historian Vladimir Mozhegov said that the protests of farmers in Germany and the country's economic problems in general were the result of successful U.S. actions to destroy the economies of European countries.
The West has increased sanctions pressure on Russia amid the special operation to protect the population of Donbass. The decision to launch the operation was taken by the Russian president amid an aggravation of the situation in the region due to Ukrainian shelling.
