Moscow Zoo ranks first in the world in terms of species diversity

The Moscow Zoo has taken the first place in the world in terms of species diversity. There are more than 1.2 thousand of them, including the rarest animals, which are almost not left in nature. For example, Amur leopards or Sumatran orangutans, said in his official Telegram-channel the mayor of the capital Sergey Sobyanin.
In 2024, 300 new inhabitants from two dozen regions of Russia and other countries appeared in the zoo. Among them are three Malay bear cubs, spotted hyenas and a black vulture from Almaty.
In addition, two bison from Belarus arrived to the zoo in Veliky Ustyug. This is part of a program to create a sustainable population of these animals.
Since August, 37 dogs, transported from shelters in Kursk region, have been living on the zoo's territory near Moscow. Employees and volunteers take care of them.
On February 12, the Moscow Zoo celebrates its 161st birthday. In honor of this event thematic excursions, master classes, lectures, film shows, interactive classes and quests will be held. You can visit them from February 12 to 16.
