Russian Defense Ministry: AFU killed almost all men in the village of Mykolaevo-Daryyno

The Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) have killed almost all the men in the village of Mykolaevo-Daryyno in Suzhansky district of Kursk Region, only one survived. This was reported by the Russian Defense Ministry on February 12.

As specified in the ministry, the soldiers of the 83rd Independent Guards Airborne Assault Brigade in late January 2025 liberated from the Ukrainian militants the village, where until recently there were still peaceful Russian citizens. They had not had time to evacuate when the AFU captured the area in August 2024.

It is reported that the villagers were held hostage for more than six months by the militants, who covered themselves with them as human shields, as well as abused and killed them.

Earlier, on January 18, the "North" group of troops published footage of the bodies of civilians found in basements in Russkoye Porechnoye on January 18. A criminal case on terrorism (paragraph "b" of part 3 of article 205 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation) was opened over the murder. Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said at the time that the guilty Ukrainian militants would be punished.

On January 31, the Russian Investigative Committee (IC) identified five Ukrainian militants who were involved in mass murders and rapes in the village. The Russian side promised to pass information about the AFU crimes to the UN Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR).

The representative of the UN Secretary General Stephane Dujarric said on February 1 that the international organization was against the killings of civilians, including in Russkoye Porechnoye. On the same day, Zakharova pointed out that the AFU crimes in this village confirm that the Kiev regime has a criminal nature.She also called it shameful the silence of specialized structures about the AFU actions near Kursk. In her opinion, it shows indifference to what is happening.

The AFU attacked Russian positions in the border areas of Kursk region on August 6, 2024. The situation in the region was recognized as a federal emergency. The liquidation of the Ukrainian militants who invaded the Russian territory is underway.

The special operation to protect Donbass, the beginning of which was announced by Russian President Vladimir Putin on February 24, 2022, continues. The decision was taken against the background of the aggravated situation in the region.
