Scholz said it was necessary to prevent an endless arms buildup

An "endless arms build-up" must be prevented. This statement was made by German Chancellor Olaf Scholz on February 11 during an event in Cottbus, where he was asked what he intends to do to prevent an increase in the number of casualties in the conflict in Ukraine.
"We must prevent an endless arms build-up. <...> We would like nothing more than to talk about arms control in Europe again," the Tagesspiegel newspaper quoted Scholz as saying.
The German Chancellor added that this would bring more security. However, according to him, Ukraine should continue to receive support, so the issue of arms control is not on the agenda yet.
Earlier in the day, Politico reported that Washington's allies in Europe are changing their approach to supporting Kiev in line with the position of US President Donald Trump, who is expressing a willingness to negotiate with Moscow. According to the publication, the new strategy will be most clearly demonstrated at the Munich Security Conference, which will be held from February 14 to 16.
At the same time, Hungarian Foreign Affairs and External Economic Relations Minister Péter Szijjártó said that it would be useful for Ukraine to cancel the decree of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy (his term expired on May 20, 2024) banning talks with Russian leader Vladimir Putin.
