Media reported on the approval of the euthanasia law by the authorities of Italian Tuscany

The regional council of Italian Tuscany has approved a bill on euthanasia. This was reported by Repubblica newspaper on February 11.

It is noted that Tuscany became the first region of Italy to adopt such a norm in the absence of national legislation in this area.

As the newspaper pointed out, the new law "unties the organizational and economic knots" of the issue of euthanasia.

"All this happened in the silence of the Parliament, which was tasked by the Constitutional Court to write the law, and under other regions that, due to rejections of the bill and problems in the commissions, have still not been able to move forward," the publication said.

Earlier, on May 16, 2024, it was reported that in the Netherlands, Zoraya ter Beck, 29, who suffers from depression, was given permission to end her life by euthanasia due to "unbearable mental suffering." Under Dutch law, in order to pass away by euthanasia, a person must be experiencing "unbearable suffering with no prospect of improvement." He must also be thoroughly informed and capable of making such a decision.
