The administration of US President Donald Trump intends to close a number of American consulates and diplomatic missions in Europe, Canada, Mexico and some islands in the Pacific Ocean in order to reduce the State Department's expenditures. This was reported by NBC News on February 11 with reference to officials.

"In an effort to cut State Department spending, the Trump administration is considering closing a number of US consulates and diplomatic missions around the world," the TV channel said in its material.

According to officials, the American leader has already familiarized himself with the list of consulates. Some of them have been submitted for consideration of specialists in the State Department in order to assess their importance to the United States.

It is specified that most of the places that are planned to be closed are in France and Germany.

Earlier in the day it was reported that the Trump administration asked the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) to draw up a list of probationary employees, which raised fears of new layoffs in the bureau.

Before that, on February 7, it became known that Trump announced the intention of his administration to carry out a number of dismissals in the Federal Bureau of Investigation, concerning employees who participated in the investigation of the attack on the Capitol. On February 6, the American leader sent a letter of dismissal to Ellen Weintraub, the Chairman of the US Elections Commission (FEC). It said that the decision to fire her was effective immediately.

On the same day, it was reported that the Trump administration intends to fire thousands of employees of the Department of Health and Human Services in Washington.

At the same time it became known that more than 60 thousand federal officials of America have already accepted the proposal of the US President on voluntary dismissal with payment of benefits, despite the deadline. At the same time, the court in the United States temporarily blocked Trump's initiative on layoffs with compensation.
