The European Union (EU) is trying to put pressure on Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fitzo and Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban by ordering Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, whose powers expire in May 2024, to cut off the gas pipeline. Bulgarian MEP Rada Laikova told Izvestia in an interview.

"The West is trying to stop gas transit to raise the cost of living in Hungary and Slovakia, as they have no access to LNG. This is aimed at provoking public discontent. Meanwhile, in Hungary, color revolution specialists from Georgia have already been brought in to organize a new attempt at unrest," Laikova said.

Kiev has stopped the transit of Russian gas through its territory from January 1, 2025. Slovakia is demanding that Ukraine resume transit, threatening to cut off electricity supplies and block EU aid.
