Experts name the biggest payouts for tourist injuries in 2024

In addition to physical ailments and stress, tourists often face substantial financial expenses for medical treatment. The insurance company Rosgosstrakh told Izvestia about the three largest payments for medical services for tourists in 2024. In each case, the amount of compensation exceeded 1 million rubles.

The first insured case was recorded in Turkey: a tourist suffered multiple fractures of the upper limbs and required three surgeries. In the Russian equivalent, the total cost of treatment amounted to RUB 1.1 million.

Also in January 2024, in Italy, a Rosgosstrakh client went to the emergency department complaining of a headache that had persisted for several days. A CT scan revealed a subarachnoid hemorrhage caused by a ruptured aneurysm.

The tourist underwent emergency surgery and was referred to a neurosurgical intensive care unit for treatment. The insurance company classified the case as an exacerbation of a life-threatening chronic disease and paid out 1.3 million rubles.

The largest payout in 2024 amounted to RUB 1.9 million for the treatment of a fracture of the tibia and fibula. Last May, a Rosgosstrakh client on vacation in Turkey was seriously injured in a fall, which resulted in a displaced fracture. The victim was immediately taken to a medical facility where emergency surgery was performed.
