Lvova-Belova reported the return of five more families with children from Syria to Russia

Five more families with children have returned to Russia from Syria. This was reported on February 11 by the presidential commissioner for children's rights Maria Lvova-Belova.

"A Russian Defense Ministry flight delivered 16 people from the Syrian Arab Republic to Russia, including nine children aged one to 16," she wrote in her Telegram channel.

Lvova-Belova thanked the Russian Defense Ministry, the Russian Foreign Ministry, the Russian embassy in the SAR and representatives of other agencies for their assistance in the return of Russian citizens. According to her, it has already been possible to return 14 families - 44 people.

"Guided by a sincere desire to help the Syrian people."

Earlier, on January 31, Lvova-Belova said that six more families with children returned to Russia from Syria. She specified that 16 Russian citizens - adults and children - had been delivered. Six families with eight children - the youngest girl is not yet a year old - have arrived on board.

The head of the new administration of Syria's interim government, Ahmed al-Sharaa, was declared president of the country for a transitional period on January 29. In addition, the new Syrian authorities announced the termination of the former Constitution and the dissolution of the country's parliament. On January 31, al-Sharaa announced the formation of the country's transitional government.

On December 8, 2024, the Russian Foreign Ministry reported that Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, after negotiations with the opposition, left the post of head of state and left the country, indicating to conduct the transfer of power peacefully. Against this backdrop, the IDF announced the deployment of forces along the Syrian border to ensure the safety of communities in the Golan Heights and Israeli citizens. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said that the demarcation agreement with Syria has been terminated due to the withdrawal of Syrian troops.

The situation in Syria has escalated following a major attack by militias in Aleppo and Idlib that began on November 28 and led to a Syrian army response against the militants.
