Germany has launched an investigation into suspected sabotage after unknown people poured metal shavings into the engine of the country's new Navy (Navy) corvette Emden This was reported by German broadcaster Tagesschau on February 11, citing WDR, NDR and SZ.

"They suspect that the "Emden" may have been targeted by saboteurs: unknown persons reportedly threw tens of kilograms of metal shavings into the ship's engine, as found during an inspection at the Blohm + Voss shipyard (Shipbuilding firm in Germany. - Ed) shortly before its first outing to sea in mid-January this year," the publication said.

It is noted that the ship has been cleaned, but it has not yet been returned to the German Navy for operation. If the chips were not eliminated in time, it would lead to a serious breakdown, specified in the material.

According to the publication, the German Navy has an urgent need for "Emden". Corvette is designed to monitor the sea space. At the same time, the German Armed Forces have already ordered five new corvettes worth 2 billion euros.

The reasons for the alleged attempted sabotage are unknown, the media outlet added.
