Estonian Defense Forces reservists will soon be invited to a week-long training camp and then join a new formation - a police crisis unit. This was reported by ERR TV and radio company on February 11.

It is noted that hundreds of reservists who have completed compulsory service in the military police battalion will receive an invitation to a week-long training camp to be held in June this year.

"After undergoing additional training organized by the Defense Forces and the Police and Border Protection Department (PPA), these reservists will be part of the Police Crisis Unit, whose task will be to support law enforcement agencies in dealing with internal crisis situations," the publication reads.

ERR quoted PPA crisis preparedness expert Kaspar Kyiwa as saying that the creation of the crisis unit will provide police with support in crisis or military conditions.

"If necessary, the unit will be mobilized by government decision and its leadership, deployment and tasks will be determined by the police depending on the specific crisis situation," the report said.

The new unit is expected to be fully staffed by the end of 2027. It is expected to include 1,000 specialists with special training.

On the same day ERR reported that in Estonia at the military base Reedo near the border with Russia deployed a unit of the U.S. Army. According to the publication, the service of the regiment will last until September. In addition, it is noted that the unit is equipped with "the most modern equipment." The battalion is a reconnaissance battalion and will take part in all exercises.
