In the United States, the state of Louisiana has resumed the death penalty after 15 years. This follows from the protocol published on February 10 on the website of the state administration.

It is specified that the execution will be carried out through the use of nitrogen gas.

"To perform the nitrogen hypoxia procedure, the inmate will wear a mask over his face and replace oxygen with nitrogen gas. <...> At a designated time, pure nitrogen gas will be administered to the inmate through the mask for a period of time sufficient to cause the death of the inmate," the document reads.

In addition, according to the protocol, the presence of media representatives and witnesses is allowed during the procedure. It is noted that the residents of Louisiana agreed with this initiative. The convict has the right to communicate with a spiritual advisor and "the last word", the text of the protocol indicates.

In Louisiana, this measure of punishment is legal, but the last execution in the state was carried out in 2010 by injection.

Earlier, on January 21, US President Donald Trump signed an executive order on the return of the death penalty at the federal level. It is specified that the Attorney General of the country should seek the death penalty for particularly serious crimes, including the murder of a law enforcement officer.
