Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev has approved an agreement with Russia on cargo transportation. This is evidenced by information published on the website of the head of the republic on February 11.

"Approve the 'Agreement between the Government of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Government of the Russian Federation on cooperation on the development of transit cargo transportation along the international transport corridor "North-South"'," the presidential decree reads.

The agreement between the governments of the two countries was signed on December 21, 2024.

Earlier, in September 2024, Dmitry Birichevsky, director of the Department of Economic Cooperation (DES) of the Russian Foreign Ministry, spoke about the increase in activity in the North-South international transport corridor. According to him, if it will be favorable for new countries, they may join the project. The head of the DES also noted that with the need to redirect cargo transportation, the Northern Sea Route also has great prospects.
