The European Union (EU) is suffering from two types of panic at once. This statement was made by Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fitzo on February 11.

"The EU suffers from two types of panic. One is from the inability to compete with the rest of the world, and the other is from what US President Donald Trumpis doing," he said in a video published on the YouTube channel of the "Course - Social Democracy" party.

Fico specified that the inability of EU countries to compete with the USA on the global market will lead to the fact that European countries will increasingly buy American gas. The Slovak prime minister emphasized that this would lead to dependence on the United States.

In addition, Europe will pay the American side for weapons for Ukraine, as NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte said earlier.

On the eve it was reported that Trump raised tariffs on imports of steel and aluminum from 10% to 25%, and also removed various benefits and quotas for the elimination of duties for the largest suppliers. Prior to that, the US president specified that these duties would be imposed on the products of those countries that had previously imposed retaliatory restrictions on US products.

At the same time, the CEO of the association of steel producers UK Steel Gareth Stace said that Trump's decision to impose duties on imports of aluminum and steel will be a crushing blow to the steel sector of the UK.

Later on February 11, European Commission (EC) head Ursula von der Leyen said that the EU will take tough measures in response to the US duties on European steel and aluminum. She also called Trump's decision unfair and added that Europe was ready to fight for its economic interests.
