No fuel oil leaks were found during the inspection of the Koala tanker


No oil product leaks were detected during the inspection of the Koala tanker, which had an incident in the port of Ust-Luga in the Leningrad Region. This was reported by the Russian Ministry of Transport on February 11.
"The diving group of the Morspassluzhba has started to inspect the Koala tanker in the port of Ust-Luga. Leaks of petroleum products have not been found," - stated in the publication of the agency in Telegram.
It is noted that at the moment specialists of the Morspassluzhba are working on the issue of pumping out 130 thousand tons of fuel oil, which is on board the wrecked ship. For this purpose pumps were delivered from Murmansk to the port of Leningrad region. They are being checked for readiness.
The Russian Ministry of Transport also said that specialists are currently inspecting the vessel to figure out how to connect the pumps to it and supply steam to the tanks with oil products.
"Fuel oil can only be unloaded in a heated state and, since there is water in the engine room, specialists are working out safe options for steam supply from the shore," the ministry explained.
The investigation into the incident is ongoing.
Earlier, on February 9, it was reported that the tanker Koala, which has 130 thousand tons of fuel oil on board, is sinking in the port of Ust-Luga. Later, the governor of the Leningrad region, Alexander Drozdenko, said that the ship had an engine failure, resulting in damage to the engine room. He noted that the tanker was moored at the berth and there was no threat of oil spillage.
Later, the press service of the Federal Agency for Maritime and River Transport reported that the tanker was surrounded by booms. Then it became known that the cargo tanks of the tanker were not damaged and there was no threat of flooding. In addition, the Rosmorrechflot reported that there were no casualties as a result of the incident.
February 11, it became known that by order of the captain of the seaport of Ust-Luga Igor Zolotykh, the owner of the tanker Koala was obliged to remove the vessel from the water area within three months. It was specified that the owner will be able to fulfill the requirement after agreeing the project documentation with the captain of the port.
