Roskachestvo gives advice on data protection on the Web

On Tuesday, February 11, the Center for Digital Expertise of Roskachevo reminded Russians of five principles of safe behavior on the Internet, which will help protect personal data and protect themselves from cyberattacks.
Thus, users were advised to use browsers with a safe browsing function, as well as to disable the tracking of outgoing traffic on sites to ensure data security and limit the collection of information about themselves, writes Lenta.Ru. It is also worth activating automatic security checks of sites and files, this will protect data from potential threats and reduce the risk of malware (software) infecting the device.
To avoid visiting suspicious sites with malicious content, you should carefully check the address bar of your browser, experts said. In addition, it is recommended to use incognito mode, so that the history of visits is not saved. It is also important to control permissions for sites and limit access to data if they are not required.
Another important rule is to create strong passwords. For greater security, you should additionally activate two-factor authentication, which will help protect your device in case hackers steal your password.
The organization also advised to regularly back up files in cloud storage. This will help minimize losses in case of an attack or data loss, the experts added.
The fifth rule is not to connect to unsecured Wi-Fi networks in public places, as there is a risk of a laptop or mobile device being hacked when connected. Attackers can gain access to emails, steal passwords and even take possession of logins from accounts.
Earlier in the day, Russian cyber police told how to protect a smartphone from thieves and hackers, RT reports. Complex passwords, as well as a ban on displaying messages on a locked screen can secure a smartphone from hacking and identity theft, Life.Ru writes.
In addition, the coordinator of the Safe Internet Center Urvan Parfentiev told the Izvestia news center about the danger of cyber threats and cyberbullying. According to him, cyberbullying is as dangerous as fraud, as it destroys personality.
