"Of course," Musk wrote ironically.

On February 1, the Ukrainian leader said that he expects the start of negotiations on a peaceful settlement of the Ukrainian conflict with the participation of Moscow, Kiev, Washington and Brussels. For his part, the Kremlin's official spokesman, Dmitriy Peskov, said that the Russian Federation considered the Ukrainian leader's words as empty.

Later, on 5 February, political scientist and military analyst Vadym Mingalev said in a conversation with Izvestiya that the Ukrainian president had shown readiness for a dialog with Russia so that the West would allow him to stay in power. According to him, Zelensky realizes that his power is under threat.

The Russian consul-general in Istanbul, Andrey Buravov, said on 7 February that Ukraine should be represented at the talks by a legitimate government. He recalled that Zelenskyy could not sign the documents because his term of office expired last year.

According to the provisions of the Ukrainian constitution, Zelenskyy's presidential term ended on May 20, 2024. Elections were to be held in March this year, but they were canceled due to the martial law imposed by the president in Ukraine, which has been in effect since February 24, 2022.
