Ukrainian prisoner reported serving minors in the AFU assault brigade

A captured militant of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU), Petro Polinkevich, has said that 16-year-old teenagers serve in the 25th separate assault brigade of the Ukrainian army. He said in a video published by the Russian Defense Ministry on February 11.
"I saw, and they presented themselves as if they were orphanages. It goes without saying that they were afraid, - orphanages, intimidated," Polinkevich said.
He specified that his unit consisted mainly of 18-year-old soldiers. According to him, the AFU also conscripts men up to 65 years old.
Polinkevich underwent forced mobilization in Ukraine. Finding himself on the front line in the Kursk region, he decided to surrender to Russian captivity. According to his recollections, he was then ordered to remove his armor, discard his weapons and come out of the dugout with his hands raised. Other fellow soldiers joined him.
"And then the next one after me - everyone came out, surrendered," the Ukrainian militant recalled.
He added that he liked it in captivity. Polinkevich urged other mobilized servicemen of the AFU to surrender to the Russian army.
Earlier, on February 11, Ukrainian prisoner of war Maxim Zolotarenko called the idea of contracts for service in the AFU for citizens from 18 years old unreasonable. A day earlier, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy (his term of office expired on May 20, 2024) announced his intention to lure young people from 18 to 24 years old to serve in the Ukrainian army through special contracts.
The special operation to protect Donbass, the start of which was announced by Russian President Vladimir Putin on February 24, 2022, continues. The decision was taken against the background of the aggravated situation in the region.
