Divers begin examination of the stranded Chinese ship near Nevelsk

Near the town of Nevelsk, Sakhalin Region, divers have begun to examine a Chinese vessel that ran aground near the port. This was reported to Izvestia on February 11 by Valery Isaak, a diving specialist of the marine service.
"The task is to examine the underwater part of the ship's hull and depth measurements along the ship, then look at the fairway in case the ship will be pulled out and removed from the shoal," - said Valery Isaak.
He noted that thanks to the east wind the divers had an opportunity to work. But because of the approaching wave, a more thorough examination of the vessel will have to be postponed until better weather conditions, Isaac added.
The Chinese vessel An Yang 2 ran aground in the Nevelsky district of the Sakhalin region on February 8. It was reported that there were 20 people on board. According to the Izvestia source, the bulk carrier did not give a distress signal. The head of the region, Valery Limarenko, said that unfavorable weather conditions prevented rescue services from approaching it.
Press secretary of Rosmorrechflot Yulia Balykova noted that the AN YANG 2 was carrying 706 tons of fuel oil, which remained intact. She specified that the cargo bulk carrier was carrying 1,000 tons of coal and confirmed that there was no threat to the crew's life. Rescuers of the Sakhalin branch of Morspassluzhba found no traces of oil product spillage and water area pollution.
