As a result of close contacts between the White House administration and Moscow and Kiev over the past week, significant progress has been made in the settlement of the Ukrainian conflict. This was reported by US President Donald Trump in an interview with Fox News TV channel on February 11.

"I think the settlement is going to happen. I think we've made significant progress over the past week," Trump said.

He specified that his team has a goal to gain access to rare earth metals that are available in Ukraine. The US President added that he does not plan to help Kiev gratuitously.

In addition, Trump said that Ukraine must guarantee the safety of the US funds invested in it because it "could someday become Russia."

On the same day, Reuters reported that Trump will hold a conversation with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, whose powers expired on May 20, 2024, in the coming days.

Earlier, on February 9, the American leader said he would hold a phone call with Russian President Vladimir Putin on the settlement of the conflict in Ukraine.

Prior to that, on February 8, Trump said that he expects to meet with Zelensky next week. Also, the American leader confirmed that he retains the intention to talk to Putin. In addition, he added that he and the Russian president have always had good relations.

On February 6, Trump said that Washington is currently holding "very constructive talks" with Moscow and Kiev to find a way to resolve the current conflict. On the same day, Kellogg said that the American president intends to tighten sanctions against Russia in the oil sector to resolve the conflict in Ukraine.
