The Federal Tax Service increased additional tax charges to businesses

The tax authorities organized 3.3 thousand field audits in the first 10 months of 2024, according to the results of which almost Br229 billion were charged to businesses. This follows from the statistics of the Federal Tax Service, which was reviewed by Izvestia. There were 40 million desk (documentary) inspections during this period, the liabilities of companies and individual entrepreneurs on their results amounted to 80 billion rubles. In total, for the first 10 months of 2024, the tax authorities have additionally charged 309 billion rubles (in 2023, the figure was 300 billion).

International and tax law lawyer Pavel Martynchenko noted that the tax office automatically reconciles and analyzes data, so there is less and less need for time-consuming field audits. According to him, the transparency of business operations is increasing.

However, additional tax assessments can reduce profitability, limit working capital and create additional risks, especially for small and medium-sized businesses, said Antonina Levashenko, senior researcher at the laboratory of analysis of best international practices of the Gaidar Institute. At the same time, he emphasized that document analysis is a much more painless way of control.

"An on-site inspection is one of the worst things that can happen to a business. For many companies it ends in complete closure. Now everything has shifted to voluntary surcharges and desk inspections," said Alexei Moshkin, a tax consultant and member of Business Russia.

The Federal Tax Service more and more often first explains to the company its violations and offers to voluntarily clarify the obligations, said Sergey Yelin, an expert of the Moscow branch of "Support of Russia" on financial and legal security of business. This allows to avoid additional charges and penalties.
