Russia will seek recognition of the crimes of the Nazi invaders and their accomplices against the civilian population as genocide of the peoples of the USSR. This was announced by Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov on February 10.

Speaking at a meeting dedicated to the Day of Diplomatic Worker, the Minister reminded that the year 2025 will pass under the sign of the 80th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War (WWII).

"Our sacred duty before the generation of heroes-liberators of Kiev and Odessa, Berlin and Prague - to preserve the historical memory of the Great Victory, to uncompromisingly fight against the conductors of neo-Nazi ideology and falsifiers of history. One of the most important tasks is to fulfill the instruction of Russian President Vladimir Putin to recognize the crimes of the Nazi invaders and their accomplices against the civilian population as genocide of the peoples of the Soviet Union," his words are quoted on the website of the diplomatic department.

Lavrov also pointed out that this year's Victory Parade will be attended by many heads of state and government. He noted that in this regard, the Foreign Ministry has a great responsibility, in particular, it is necessary to use all the resources to ensure that these celebrations were held at the highest level.

Earlier, on February 7, the prosecutor's office of the Murmansk region sent a petition to the court with a request to recognize the actions of the Nazi invaders in the region during World War II as genocide of the Soviet people. It was specified that in the region the total number of victims of the invaders, killed, tortured in camps, died as a result of disease and starvation, exceeds 15 thousand people.

In 2025, May 9 marks 80 years since the victory in the Great Patriotic War. In January 1945, the USSR army launched an offensive against Berlin. As a result of military operations at 00:43 Moscow time on May 9, commanders-in-chief signed an act of unconditional surrender of Germany, which served as the end of the Great Patriotic War.
