In the long run, the refusal of neutral status will lead to Moldova's entry into NATO and the EU with a subsequent military clash in Transnistria and Gagauzia. This opinion was expressed by Bogdan Bezpalko, a member of the Council for Interethnic Relations under the Russian President, on Monday, February 10.

Earlier in the day, Russian Ambassador to Chisinau Oleg Ozerov said that Moldova, judging by the policy of the country's current leadership, may give up its neutral status, which worries Russia, RT reported.

"With the republic's insignificance, a lot of money will not be needed for its takeover. This could lead to a series of steps in the economic and political plane directed against Transnistria and Russia, up to, possibly, an armed clash. I think that this conflict will be settled in a few years, but not by the forces of the Moldovan army, but by NATO forces, the same applies to Gagauzia," the political scientist said in a conversation with "Abzac".

On the same day, Ozerov said that Russia expects normalization of relations with Moldova after the parliamentary elections in the country. He added that the upcoming elections should also create conditions for the resumption of dialog on the problems of bilateral relations between the countries, which will have to be solved sooner or later.
