Russian ambassador says progress in trade turnover between Russia and Brazil

Trade turnover between Russia and Brazil has reached $12 bln, which is progress. Russian Ambassador to Brazil Alexei Labetsky told Izvestia on February 10.
"According to Brazilian statistics, indeed, we have reached this amount of $12+ billion of our bilateral trade turnover. And this is clear progress. This clear progress is well felt against the background of attempts to sanction our economy after the start of the special military operation," he said.
According to him, market principles in the international arena work better than sanctioned illegal actions. Labetsky said that more than 30% of the Brazilian fertilizer market is supplied from the Russian Federation, which is the basis of Russian-Brazilian trade turnover.
"Brazil today is an agrarian-industrial superpower, and it is possible to maintain high rates of development of production of the agrarian sector only by, let's say, maintaining the productivity of the land, crops," the ambassador added.
The second sector in terms of trade volume, he said, is fuel, primarily diesel. He noted, however, that the basic task in the area of investment is the diversification of goods, explaining that it is based on knowledge and understanding of the new market realities in both countries.
"To work on the principles that were, well, let's say, correct 20-25 years ago, today, it seems to me, are unpromising. In this case, projects that are subsidized and forgiven by the state and projects of the private sector should be organically combined," Labetsky specified.
In addition, he noted good prospects for trade through the state corporation Rosatom, as well as in a number of other areas.
Earlier, on December 18, Labetsky said that Russia and Brazil should organize direct air and sea communications in order to be able to conduct bilateral relations between the countries to bypass unfriendly states and their sanctions.
