Russian Ambassador talks about India's role in BRICS and SCO work

The BRICS and SCO are important in the global arena and India continues to play an active role within the framework of these two international organizations. Russian Ambassador to India Denis Alipov told Izvestia on February 10.

The ambassador noted that the importance and influence of BRICS in world affairs is growing, as well as the number of countries that wish to join this format and take an active part in it. At the same time, India is interested in further deepening cooperation in a variety of areas.

"India is interested in further deepening of the Brics cooperation in various tracks - in trade, finance, customs, <...> and in such urgent topics as digitalization and innovations," Alipov said.

The ambassador also described the SCO as an important regional association that contributes to stability in India and also noted the country's important role within the organization.

"We are vigorously interacting on regional security topics within the SCO. Organized counter-terrorism, military exercises, humanitarian, of course, there is cooperation. India has brought innovative tracks like working in the field of startups, for example, to the SCO agenda," Alipov said.

Earlier, in December last year, Moscow hosted the XV India-Russia Business Dialogue organized by the Indian Business Alliance (IBA) with the support of the Business Council for Cooperation with India (BCCI) and Roscongress Foundation. It is reported that the event demonstrated the significant potential for deepening cooperation between Russia and India.

BRICS is an association comprising Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa, UAE, Iran, Egypt, Ethiopia and Indonesia.

SCO is an intergovernmental international organization established in 2001, whose members are Kazakhstan, China, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Pakistan, India, Iran and Belarus.
