Relations between Moscow and Washington are on the verge of rupture. Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov told reporters on February 10.

"It has been repeatedly said from our side that they (relations between Russia and the United States. - Ed.) are teetering on the brink of rupture," Ryabkov said.

He pointed out that the administration of the previous US President Joe Biden chose the path of hybrid warfare and introduced it in all its documents. In addition, the team of the former US leader imposed on all its partners in various blocs the idea that Russia could be strategically defeated.

According to him, against this background, the confrontational coloring of relations between Moscow and Washington was getting stronger and stronger, and the situation has reached a rather acute level, "Gazeta.Ru" reports.

Earlier in the day, Ryabkov said that the return of US President Donald Trump to the White House marks a change in the course of Washington's foreign policy. The new head of state changes the liberal-globalist vector to national-populist, he added.

Before that, on January 22, Ryabkov said that there is a small window of opportunity to reach agreements with the Trump administration, which is noticeable against the background of Biden's hopelessness in this area. According to the deputy foreign minister, the period in U.S.-Russian relations, which begins with the new president's team coming to power, is characterized by an increased pace of change, a serious level of unpredictability and many challenges.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov indicated on January 19 that the Biden administration has done tremendous damage to U.S.-Russian relations.

U.S. Ambassador to Russia Lynne Tracy said on January 1 that Washington is ready for a constructive and respectful dialog with Moscow despite differences. The diplomat pointed out that there is now a serious "need for diplomatic efforts," and therefore the United States should "continue to preserve existing ties and forge new ones" with the Russian Federation.

Russian President Vladimir Putin noted on December 22, 2024 that the Russian Federation is ready to normalize relations with the United States, but not to the detriment of its interests. Thus, the head of state answered the question whether it was possible to revive Russian-American relations, which were in decline due to Washington's steps.
