Bolivian president invited to celebrate 80th anniversary of Victory Day

Bolivian President Luis Arce was invited to the celebration of the 80th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War. This was reported by the Russian ambassador to the Latin American state Dmitry Verchenko in a conversation with RIA Novosti on February 10.

"There was an exchange of invitations at the level of heads of state: (Russian President. - Ed.) Vladimir Putin invited the Bolivian president to take part in the celebration of the 80th anniversary of Victory in Moscow in May, and the Bolivian side invited the Russian leader to celebrate the 200th anniversary of the country's independence in August," - he said.

The diplomat recalled that Arce visited Russia twice in 2024. The high-level talks held during these visits gave a strong impetus to bilateral relations.

The ambassador also reported on possible exchanges of parliamentary delegations between the Bolivian Chamber of Deputies and the Russian Federation Council.

Earlier in the day, Russian Ambassador to China Igor Morgulov said that Chinese President Xi Jinping had accepted an invitation to the 80th anniversary of the Victory received from Putin on January 21. At the same time, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that the Russian president would attend events in China on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the victory over Japan.

In addition, the invitation has already been accepted by Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fitzo. Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic has agreed with him to go to the Victory Parade in Moscow. Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas also expressed his hope to attend the holiday.

On January 15, Russian Defense Minister Andrei Belousov also said that military units of 19 friendly states have been invited to the parade in honor of the 80th anniversary of the Victory, 10 of them have already confirmed their participation.

In 2025, May 9 marks 80 years since the victory in the Great Patriotic War. In January 1945, the USSR army launched an offensive on Berlin. As a result of military operations at 00:43 Moscow time on May 9, the commanders-in-chief signed an act of unconditional surrender of Germany, which served as the end of the Great Patriotic War.
