Russians have increased spending in bookstores by 16%. Such data showed the analysis of transactions on the cards of Post Bank customers at the beginning of this year compared to the same period in 2024. "Izvestia" got acquainted with the information of the credit organization on February 11.

At the same time, the number of purchases increased by 7%, and the average check - by 22%, to 421 rubles. Most often such purchases were made by women: their share amounted to 73% of the total number of buyers.

According to the bank's estimates, Russians seek not only to raise their intellectual level, but also to instill reading skills in their children. Traditionally, women are in charge of choosing books for family reading. In addition, they mostly buy textbooks and teaching aids for school and extracurricular activities.

As for preferences, buyers in Russia purchase in bookstores not only educational literature, but also fiction, as well as popular science publications, magazines and calendars, specified in the financial organization.

Earlier, on November 27, 2024, the director of the electronic library system "Lan" Alexander Nikiforov told "Izvestia" that regular reading allows not only to expand the outlook, but also to increase the efficiency of the brain and improve the overall quality of life. Among other things, literature helps develop imagination, fantasy and creativity, he added.
