State Duma deputy and former world boxing champion Nikolay Valuev has expressed hope for the settlement of the issue with the ban on his entry to Azerbaijan.

Earlier, the press service of the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry said on its official website that the authorities had banned Nikolai Valuyev from entering the country. According to the statement, such a decision was taken because of "insulting and threatening statements of the deputy to Azerbaijan."

"There is no point. I did not threaten them with anything. <...> Even after putting me on this list (persona non grata. - Ed.), I consider Azerbaijan a friendly country and hope that it will be settled," the deputy said in a conversation with Lenta.Ru on February 10.

Earlier Valuyev criticized Azerbaijan's plans to close the Russian Information and Cultural Center (Russian House) in Baku, when Azerbaijan officially sent a note to the Russian side on the termination of the Russian House.

At the same time, an informed source told Izvestia on February 7 that Moscow still expects to settle the issue of the status of the Russian House in Baku.
