Duma speaks out on changes in US rhetoric on Ukraine under Trump

US President Donald Trump has changed Washington's rhetoric on Ukraine towards talking about a peaceful settlement, but so far it is only words. This opinion was expressed by Svetlana Zhurova, first deputy chairman of the State Duma Committee on Foreign Affairs, on Monday, February 10.
"He first named himself one term for a settlement, then, apparently realizing that it is impossible, changed it. Within the framework of election speeches, such things are acceptable in order to gain political points and votes. When it was realized that it was necessary to act, that there were some pitfalls, everything stalled a bit. <...> So far there is no result, so far only words," - said the deputy in a conversation with Lenta.Ru.
Earlier, on February 9, Mike Walz, national security adviser to the American president, said that the US authorities were having many conversations, including sensitive ones, with the Russian authorities, RT reported.
Asked about the content of the alleged phone conversation between the US and Russian leaders, Waltz said that he did not intend to provide any information before it was reported by Trump himself, according to the kp.ru website.
On the same day, Trump said he had a phone conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin about resolving the conflict in Ukraine, 360.ru reported. The official representative of the Kremlin Dmitry Peskov in turn did not confirm or deny these data, reports NSN.
Prior to that, on February 5, Trump said that Washington is currently holding "very constructive talks" with Moscow and Kiev to find a way to resolve the current conflict. At the same time, Peskov said that Russia and theUnited States are negotiating with each other at the level of separate agencies and their dialog has recently become more active.
