The return of US President Donald Trump to the White House means a change of milestones in the country's foreign policy course. This was stated by Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov on Monday, February 10.

"The convincing of this victory and his return to the White House means a change of milestones in US domestic policy, well, and, of course, the emergence of many new components and nuances in the foreign policy course. The liberal-globalization vector has been replaced by the reality of national-populism," he said at a press conference in Moscow.

Ryabkov pointed out that U.S.-Russian relations remain strained after former U.S. President Joe Biden and his administration aimed at inflicting a strategic defeat on Russia. According to the diplomat, relations between Moscow and Washington are on the verge of breaking down.

The Russian deputy foreign minister expressed the opinion that the allotted place of a sharp adversary in the policy of the States has hardened for Russia.

Ryabkov noted the interest of the Trump team in resuming dialog with the Russian side. The diplomat, in turn, reminded that the Russian Federation is ready for a dialog on Ukraine on an equal basis.

The day before, on February 9, the American leader said that he had a phone call with Russian President Vladimir Putin on the settlement of the conflict in Ukraine.

On February 7, Trump said that he expects to meet next week with Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelensky (whose term expired on May 20, 2024). At the same time, the US president confirmed that he maintains his intention to talk to Putin. In addition, he added that he and the Russian leader have always had good relations.

Before that, on February 5, Ryabkov said that the first step to normalize relations with Russia should be made by the United States. Moscow is open to dialog in the mode of "hard bargaining." According to the diplomat, decisions and choices in this matter are left to Trump and his administration.

Earlier, on January 24, Putin said that their relations with the American leader are trusting and pragmatic. The head of state noted that it was not Russia's fault that the previous U.S. administration had refused contacts with the Russian side, adding that Moscow had never refused them.
