Rescuers of the Sakhalin branch of Morspassluzhba found no traces of oil spills and water area pollution after the Chinese cargo ship An Yang 2 ran aground near the port of Nevelsk. This was reported in the Telegram-channel of the Federal Agency of Sea and River Transport (Rosmorrechflot) on February 10.

"A visual inspection of the water area from the emergency vessel to the shoreline for oil product leaks was carried out. No traces of oil product spillage and pollution of the water area were found," the agency said in a statement.

It is specified that Morsspassluzhba divers will be involved for examination of the underwater part of the bulk carrier for hidden damage, but they will start descending after the onset of favorable weather conditions.

In addition, it is planned to monitor the sea area and the emergency vessel with the help of drones.

"According to information from the captain of the emergency vessel, there are two holes in the ballast tanks and forepeak, no oil product leaks have been detected. All stocks are in "suspended" tanks and fuel is not threatened. All ship systems and mechanisms of the vessel are in good working order", - follows from the publication.

The Chinese vessel An Yang 2 ran aground in the Nevelsky district of the Sakhalin region on February 8. It was reported that there were 20 people on board.

According to the Izvestia source, the bulk carrier did not give a distress signal. The head of the region, Valery Limarenko, said that unfavorable weather conditions prevented rescue services from approaching it.

Later, the Eastern Interregional Investigative Directorate for Transport (EIDT) of Russia's Investigative Committee (IC) said investigators had begun to establish the circumstances of the accident.

Rosmorrechflot spokeswoman Yulia Balykova noted that the AN YANG 2 was carrying 706 tons of fuel oil, which remained intact. She specified that the cargo bulk carrier was carrying 1,000 tons of coal and confirmed that there was no threat to the crew's life.
