Weather forecaster predicts cold and snow in Moscow this week

A cold snap is expected in Moscow and the Moscow region, leading specialist of the Meteonovosti information agency Tatyana Pozdnyakova told Izvestia on February 10. Snow is forecast in the second half of the week.

"In the first half of the working week, the weather will be determined by the anticyclone. The center of the anticyclone will be located approximately over the south of the Scandinavian Peninsula. That is, we will be in its colder part. With cloudy weather with clearings we will not expect precipitation until Wednesday inclusive. As for the temperature regime, it will start to decrease, because the northeastern wind will prevail in the region and colder air will come with it," - said the forecaster.

According to her, the minimum temperature on February 11 in Moscow will be -5...-7, in the region up to -9. Daytime temperature in the capital on Tuesday -2...-4, in the region -2...-5. On Wednesday, February 12, the background temperature will remain at the same level: the minimum level in the region -5...-10, daytime temperature -1...-6.

"The second half of the week the weather will be determined by a baric trough from the north, from the northern cyclone, which is warmer, more humid, but, unfortunately, it will not bring us heat. As for snow, we expect that on Thursday, Friday and Saturday we will have a little snowfall at times," - added Pozdnyakova.

At the same time, on February 13 and 14, Thursday and Friday, the nights will be slightly warmer, within -6...-7 in Moscow, and in the region -3...-8. Daytime temperatures will remain at -2...-4 in Moscow, in the region -1...-6. Then the air temperature will begin to decrease. Thus, on February 15 and 16, Saturday and Sunday, the night will be frosty, and the temperature in Moscow will be -8...-10, in the region up to -12. Daytime temperature in the capital will be about -5, in the region up to -8 degrees.

"At the weekend, the average daily air temperature will be close to the climatic norm and it is possible that in some places will be slightly below the climatic norm, which we have not happened for a long time. Winter will begin to show its character, though a little, but still snow and noticeable frosts," - concluded Pozdnyakova.

Earlier, on January 28, the head of the forecasting center "Meteo" Alexander Shuvalov told "Izvestia" that in February in the capital will be a drop in temperature, which will be accompanied by light snow. At the same time, no heavy snowfalls are forecasted.
