Moldovan authorities allowed gas transit to Transnistria under a number of conditions

Moldova has allowed gas transit to the unrecognized Transnistrian Moldovan Republic (TMR) under a number of conditions. This was announced by Moldovan Prime Minister Dorin Recean on February 10.
"The government together with the European Union has solved a serious problem <...> - gave heat and light to the homes of the Transnistrian region residents," he wrote on Facebook (owned by Meta, which is recognized as extremist and banned in Russia).
He specified that the money from the European grant granted on February 1 was used in full. Recean specified that the DMR refused the European Union's (EU) offer to finance gas purchases.
According to the Moldovan prime minister, the Hungarian company MET Gas and Energy Marketing AG will supply gas to Transnistria on the basis of a contract concluded with Moldovagaz. Tiraspol will pay the transit costs in advance.
"Tiraspol will take a number of actions to demonstrate openness: it will release political prisoners, resolve the issue with the lyceum in Ribnita, keep Moldovan public television online, remove the checkpoints set up in 2022 (33, of which 11 are still in operation)," Recean added.
Earlier, on February 5, the PMR Supreme Council (unicameral parliament) announced the extension of the state of emergency in the region's economy until March 10.
Former Moldovan President and leader of the Party of Socialists (PSRM) Igor Dodon said on February 4 that the energy crisis in the unrecognized republic was created by Kiev and Chisinau, which seek to provoke a humanitarian disaster on the left bank of the Dnieper River.
Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova pointed out on January 30 that Moldova was interested in using the energy crisis as a weapon against the DMR. According to Zakharova, Chisinau's words about its desire to end the difficulties that Tiraspol is experiencing are mere declarations.
Gas supplies from Russia to Moldova and Transnistria stopped on January 1 due to Ukraine 's refusal to prolong the agreement on transit through its territory and debts of the Moldovan side to Gazprom. In mid-January, it became known that Russia was ready to provide assistance to the DMR and start humanitarian gas supplies.
