Work on the disposal of the Volgoneft-239 tanker, which sank in December, is ahead of schedule. This was reported on February 10 by the press service of the Ministry of Transport of the Russian Federation in the official Telegram-channel.

"Despite the stormy weather, the work is ahead of schedule. Specialists have finished dismantling the tanker's superstructure to the level of the main deck," the statement said.

It is specified that the transition bridge has already been completely cut and dismantled. Now there is a section of the engine room. In total, 86 tons of metal were sent for disposal.

In addition, this week the specialists will start the most difficult phase of the operation - cutting of the underwater part of the ship. Special technicians will pull the lower part of the hull ashore, gradually separating the fragments. Then this metal will be taken out for further remelting.

The agency added that the work will be completed by the end of March.

Earlier, on February 6, it became known that from the sunken tanker "Volgoneft-239" removed the first batch of dismantled metal. It was reported that as part of the ongoing work specialists began processing more than 50 tons of metal, 10 tons of which have already been removed by truck. It was also specified that to ensure environmental safety in the area of dismantling works employees of Morspassluzhba are on duty.

Tankers "Volgoneft-212" and "Volgoneft-239" due to bad weather crashed in the Kerch Strait on December 15, 2024. The incident resulted in a spill of oil products. 27 people were evacuated from both vessels, one person died. On the instructions of Russian President Vladimir Putin, a working group was set up to coordinate work to eliminate the consequences of the emergency.
