Russia considers the work of the Friends of the World platform as a signal to the West. This was reported by Russia's permanent representative to the UN Vasily Nebenzya on February 10.

According to him, the activities of the association are seen as a signal to the entire international community and, first of all, to representatives of the West on the issue of "unacceptability of one-sided, biased approaches imposed by them" regarding the conflict in Ukraine.

"We have no doubt that such a position of the members of the association is dictated by the realization that the ultimatums "peace formulas" promoted by the "collective West" take into account exclusively its interests," he said in an interview with RIA Novosti.

At the same time, Nebenzya noted that conferences on the Ukrainian conflict ignore the Russian Federation. He pointed to the West's goal to dilute the role of the world majority countries in resolving the situation or exclude it altogether.

In addition, he recalled China's proposal to convene an international conference with equal participation of the parties and honest discussion of options for peaceful resolution of the conflict.

On September 27, 2024, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi said that China, Brazil and other countries of the Global South intend to establish an open "Friends of Peace" platform on resolving the conflict in Ukraine. Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico said on Dec. 10 that Beijing and Brasilia will play an extremely important role in the settlement and achieve the goal.

Russian President Vladimir Putin held a telephone conversation with his Brazilian counterpart Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva on January 27 this year, during which they discussed the Ukrainian conflict and also the arrival of a new administration in the United States.

The special operation to protect Donbass, the start of which was announced on February 24, 2022, continues. The decision was taken against the background of the aggravated situation in the region.
