At least three people have died due to heavy snowfall in Japan


At least three people were killed and 53 injured due to snowfalls over the past few days in Japan. This was reported by the Japanese newspaper Asahi Shimbum on February 10, citing sources.
According to the newspaper, as of today the height of snow cover in Japanese cities reaches from 300 to more than 400 centimeters. Snowfall in the country has not stopped for several days.
"According to the Fire and Disaster Management Agency of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications, as of 09:00 (local time, 03:00 Moscow time) on the 10th, a total of three people died in Fukushima, Niigata and Toyama prefectures, and another 53 people were injured, some of them seriously, in a total of 14 prefectures due to a series of heavy snowfalls that began on the 4th," the publication said.
It is noted that accidents occur mainly due to snow falling from roofs.
Thus, on February 8, a 77-year-old woman was found near her house in Fukushima. Half of her body was covered with snow, and a shovel was lying nearby. The woman died.
In Yamagata on the same day, a 66-year-old man was found unconscious near his home. The upper part of his body was under the snow. The Japanese man was taken to the hospital, at the moment his condition is characterized as critical.
In one of the settlements of Yamagata died a 60-year-old man, who was found near his house, buried under snowdrifts.
Earlier, on February 6, it was reported that in Japan closed 38 sections of expressways, suspended 24 railway routes and canceled 134 flights.
