Xi Jinping accepts invitation to 80th Victory Day celebrations

President of the People's Republic of China (PRC) Xi Jinping has accepted an invitation to attend the celebration of the 80th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War (WWII) in Moscow on May 9, 2025. Russian Ambassador to China Igor Morgulov said on February 10.

"This is also such a good tradition in our relations. Chinese President Xi Jinping accepted the invitation to take part in Moscow on May 9 in the celebrations on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War," he said on air of the TV channel "Russia 24".

In addition, Morgulov recalled that the head of the People's Republic of China invited Russian President Vladimir Putin to China for the events to be held in early September and dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the victory of the Chinese people over Japan.

The Russian president invited his Chinese counterpart to attend the Victory Parade on May 9 on January 21. It was reported at the time that Xi Jinping also invited Putin to the events to be held in Beijing on September 3.

Putin and Xi Jinping held talks via video link earlier in the day. During them, the Russian leader said the ideology of fascism, Nazism and militarism should not be allowed to raise its head again.

In 2025, May 9 marks 80 years since the victory in the Great Patriotic War. In January 1945, the USSR army launched an offensive against Berlin. As a result of the fighting at 00:43 Moscow time on May 9, the commanders-in-chief signed an act of unconditional surrender of Germany, which served as the end of the Great Patriotic War.
