Finnish authorities to investigate tanker accident in Leningrad region


Finland is going to conduct its own investigation into the accident with the Koala tanker in the port of Ust-Luga, Leningrad Region. This was announced by Finnish Prime Minister Petteri Orpo on February 10.
"The Finnish authorities are investigating the situation," he wrote in the social network X (former Twitter).
The Prime Minister noted that the country is closely following the news on the incident.
In addition, the Finnish Border Intelligence Service has strengthened its readiness to respond to possible fuel oil spills. The agency added that for additional information collection in the eastern part of the Gulf of Finland sent a reconnaissance helicopter, specifies "Gazeta.Ru".
The day before it was reported that the tanker with 130 thousand tons of fuel oil on board was sinking in the port of Ust-Luga. Later, the governor of the Leningrad region, Alexander Drozdenko, said that the ship had an engine failure, resulting in damage to the engine room. He noted that the tanker was moored at the berth and there was no threat of oil spillage.
Later, the press service of the Federal Agency for Maritime and River Transport reported that the tanker was surrounded by booms. Then it became known that the cargo tanks of the tanker were not damaged and there was no threat of flooding.
